Interview with Rajoshi Vidyarthi
Gaanmela recently interviewed Rajoshi Vidyarthi, a professional singer and a multifaceted personality. Her mom is the renowned Tollywood actress Srimati Shakuntala Barua. Rajoshi Vidyarthi is married to Ashish Vidyarthi, the famous Bollywood actor and they have a son, Mowgli.

Born to an eminent artiste in Kolkata, Ms. Shakuntala Barua – Rajoshi has been but naturally inclined towards the arts, be it music, dance or theatre. From her childhood, Rajoshi has been dabbling in theatre at the CLT, Kolkata, dance in Ashok Hall School and of course music under the guidance of her illustrious mother. She was an active member of the Jadavpur University Drama Club staging many plays. She was instrumental in setting up the Times FM Radio station and was Radio Jockey, Producer and Scriptwriter all rolled into one having worked with them from 1994 to 1999. In her own words, Rajoshi “kept discovering” new horizons. At one point she asked herself whether she should pursue dancing or singing.
Rajoshi has been greatly influenced by the music of the Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore and by her contemporaries like Lopamudra Mitra, Srikanto Acharya and Moushumi Bhowmik. Having discovered her true calling in the form of singing, Rajoshi has worked for television, singing title songs of serials as well as recording and releasing music albums and participating in many stage shows. At present, Rajoshi is working on a Hindi music album of modern songs collaborating with musicians from West Bengal.
Landmark Forum is one of Rajoshi’s passions wherein she helps in individual personality building. Rajoshi also conducts workshops for children and holds classes for them under the name of “Amar Pathshala” wherein children are taught the Bengali language and stage skits and plays. Learning Opera music has helped Rajoshi learn best how to use and present her unique voice and style of singing. Incidentally Rajoshi plays the piano exceptionally well without any formal training. In future, she is keen on composing music. She has also explored the avenue of acting, having worked in various advertisements for brands such as Tatasky, Ashirwad Haldi, and others.
Critically acclaimed actor Ashish Vidyarthi is Rajoshi’s husband and her best critic. Rajoshi relies on Ashish’s feedback on her work. Their eight-year old son, Mowgli is naturally inclined towards the arts and is very gifted.
Returning the favor of the immense support and influence that she has received from the city of Kolkata is Rajoshi’s dream and she hopes to contribute culturally to the field of Arts in West Bengal.

First of all, your comment was somewhat rude. When we Bengalees make thousands of mistakes in our mother tongue, we don’t feel bad about it. When it comes down to a foreign language, we get very much concerned!
Language is only a tool to “Express Your Views” and communicate with others. As long as you can do it, you are doing great with a foreign language.
Not all of of us are literary gurus. But we are experts in our own way.
