Purba Dam – Exclusive Interview
Purba Dam is one of the greatest Rabindra Sangeet singers of all time. She is a student of the legendary Rabindra Sangeet singer Suchitra Mitra. However, Purba Dam has never confined herself in the Suchitra Mitra style, but developed a unique and elegant style of her own. We certainly feel honored that she could give us some of her valuable time and share her thoughts with us here at Gaanmela. We hope to listen to her bold and melodious voice for many more years to come.

Where can I find a complete list of your Rabindrasangeet and Atulprasadi (if you published any) CDs? Three years ago, while visiting Kolkata, I bought a lot of your CDs of Rabindrasangeet. Many of them are new artists (Shreya GuhaThakurta)that are simply fantastic. Unfortunately, the your reproduction quality is not half as good as EMI/SaReGama’s. Many of these CDs, such as several of the Mohan Singh and Vikram Singh CDs were, sadly, defective. I was at the Naiyer Brother-Sister function in Kolkata one evening. It was worth it. Please have a web site with your complete listing and have better quality control of your CDs. We, the Bengalis abroad, mostly see pirated CDs and DVDs through Bangladesh. Very few Indian stores stock Bengali Movies and Music. New York and Toronto maybe exceptions. You should start a distribution center on the US East Coast. Thanks.
